The Hikurangi Community Library is set to open its doors on Saturdays for the first time, following strong interest from locals wanting weekend access. The new trial begins this week, with the library open from 10am to 1pm every Saturday.

The move has been made possible thanks to the commitment of the library’s volunteer team. Jennifer Hemara and Joan Dempster have stepped forward to staff this Saturday's session and are looking forward to welcoming visitors.
The trial aims to give families, workers, and weekend visitors more flexibility to use the library’s services. Alongside book borrowing and returns, the library has set up a jigsaw puzzle table, with Lego and Duplo available to keep younger tamariki entertained while whānau browse.
The committee is encouraging the community to get behind the trial. Strong support will help determine whether Saturday hours can continue long‑term.
Saturday Opening Hours: 10am to 1pm, starting this week
Locals are invited to come down, make use of the space, and show their support for the volunteers who are making this new service possible.
