Have your say on the WDC 2026/27 Annual Plan and Proposed Fees & Charges

The Whangārei District Council is consulting on the 2026/27 Annual Plan and the Proposed Fees & Charges for 2026/27. This is an opportunity for Hikurangi residents to tell the Council what matters locally — from roads and parks to community services and rates.

Key dates and how to take part

Why your input matters

The Annual Plan sets Council priorities, budgets and fees that affect everyday life in Hikurangi. Submissions help Councillors understand local needs and trade-offs; even a short submission highlighting one or two priorities can influence decisions.

WDC Annual Plan Feedback: What you can comment on

  • Rates and funding priorities — how Council raises and spends money.

  • Local projects and services — maintenance, upgrades, or new initiatives affecting Hikurangi.

  • Proposed fees and charges — changes to user fees for facilities and services.

You can comment on any part of the WDC Annual Plan or fees schedule; you don’t need to cover everything.

Help with making a submission

If you’d like assistance, bring your questions to the drop-in session on 24 March, 12:30–2:00pm at the WDC Offices, Rust Ave. Staff and Councillors can explain the proposals and help you complete the online form.

Tips for a clear submission

  • Start with a short summary of your view (support/oppose/seek change).

  • Identify the specific part of the plan or fee you’re commenting on.

  • Explain the local impact on Hikurangi with examples if possible.

  • Suggest a clear outcome or change you’d like to see.

Your voice helps shape local services and spending — make sure Hikurangi is heard before 4pm, 3 April.
