Rubbish and Recycling
Hikurangi Transfer Station
For larger items or if you do not receive a weekly kerbside collection, you can take rubbish, recycling and green waste to the Hikurangi Transfer Station.

Waro Drive, off King Street, north end.

Monday to Friday: 8am to 1pm
Saturday to Sunday: 8am to 5pm

Animal Management
Dog Rushing or Attacks
There are between 450 and 500 reported dog attacks or rushing incidents each year in the Whangārei district.
Report any dog attack or rushing incident to WDC Animal Management on 09 430 4200.
If you have been bitten or skin has been broken, seek medical attention immediately.
Stray Animals
If the animal belongs to a neighbour, speak with them first.
If the issue cannot be resolved, contact WDC on 09 430 4200.
Roaming Dogs
Roaming dogs can intimidate people, harm animals, scatter rubbish and create traffic hazards.
If a dog is menacing or dangerous, WDC may issue warnings, infringements, prosecute, classify the owner, classify the dog, or impound the dog.
Wandering Stock
Stock on public roads is a serious safety issue.
Report wandering stock to 09 430 4200.
Dog Ownership Responsibilities
Dog owners must:
• register their dog
• microchip their dog
• provide exercise, shelter, food and clean water
• keep their dog under control
• use a leash in public places unless in a designated off‑leash area
• supervise dogs around children and strangers

Noise Control
Noise complaints are investigated by Armourguard on behalf of WDC.
If noise is considered excessive, a notice will be issued requiring the noise to be reduced.
The notice remains in place for eight days.
If noise continues, officers may return with Police and seize equipment.
Equipment may be returned once costs are paid, but ongoing issues can lead to permanent confiscation.
Common complaints include loud music and alarms.
Excessive noise is defined under the Resource Management Act 1991.
Water Services
Residents can report:
