3 Valley Road, Hikurangi 0114, NZ
We have two local police officers who cover our large Hikurangi district. They are based from the Hikurangi Police Station, however the police residence is not occupied at present.
Lisa Magnusson and Pete Thomas are our local officers and they are currently working towards having the Hikurangi Police Station open to the public at least once per week.
In the meantime, the procedure for contacting police should you need their help is the following:
If you are witnessing or are involved in an emergency situation where you or someone else requires immediate help
In this situation you should immediately call 111. In an emergency an officer will be dispatched to come to your aid, this could be from any of the Whangarei stations and is dependent on who is available and nearby at the time of your call. There is no guarantee the officer responding too your call will be either of our local officers.
If you know of a situation that needs police support or intervention, but it is not urgent
In this situation you should call 105. You should inform the answering police support worker of the situation you wish to report and follow the procedure they advise you of over the phone. Once the paperwork is complete on their end, the file will be forwarded on to an officer to handle. It is likely in this situation a Hikurangi District based issue will be passed back to our local officers, however this process can sometimes take a couple of weeks depending on the urgency and nature of the case. Sometimes a reply may not be required, in which you may not be contacted back. If you have concerns about the follow up of your file, you can contact our local station on 4338787 and leave a message for Lisa or Pete to follow the file up and ask that they contact you back.
If you have a query that you are not sure if police need to be notified of or involved in
In this case you can either query by calling 105 or you can leave a message for our officers at our local station.
Our officers work on rostered shifts, so usually days and nights are both covered either "on the ground" or "on call" by either of the two local officers. There is however a period during the day where both officers work together for around 1-3 hours.
The Hikurangi Police Station covers a large area spanning from Kauri to Hukerenui and out to the Oakura and Whananaki Coasts. Please be mindful that this is a geographically large area for our officers to cover so are often out and about and may not be found at the Hikurangi Police Station often. If you are wanting to visit the station for any reason, you can see if it is open or not by looking to see if a police car is parked in the station driveway. It is more likely to have an officer there when both officers are rostered on, between 1-3pm.
