Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
Our local Lions Cub was first started in 1963 with Knocker Wells as the first President (pictured). Since then the club has supported many groups and individuals in and around Hikurangi, for example:
1980's = supplying 2 hospital grade beds for home use in Hikurangi
1990's = supplying equipment for the Hikurangi Fire Brigade
2000's = supplying equipment for St Johns and 3 defibrillators for Hikurangi
We have around 25 members made up of both men and women. We help families in need with money and/or supplies and help/organize all sorts of local events including the annual Christmas Parade, Fireworks night, International Rally of Whangarei, etc. We hold annual golf tournaments and deliver phone books to raise money for community projects. We facilitated the development of the Waro Lake walking loop, provided picnic tables, planted trees, and helped develop the skate park.
We meet the second Tuesday of every month for a dinner meeting with guest speaker (6.30pm), as well as the fourth Tuesday of every month for our business meetings (7.30pm). We meet at The Hikurangi Bowling Club and welcome new members.
If you, anyone you know, or any groups in the district need assistance, either financially or hands on, please call the president directly and then follow up with a letter (email) to the club.
