Q: Why is the live stream on King Street?
A: To help keep our town safe. The live stream gives a real‑time view of public spaces so people can feel more secure and so authorised staff can monitor activity when needed.
Q: Do you record or store the footage?
A: No. The live stream is a real‑time feed only. We do not keep an archive of the footage for routine monitoring.
Q: Is audio recorded?
A: No. We do not record sound.
Q: Who can view the live stream?
A: The live stream is publicly viewable in real time on this page.
Q: If I want to see footage of myself, how does that work if nothing is stored?
A: You can still make a request as per the Privacy Act. We will check whether any footage was retained for a specific investigation or technical reason and let you know. If no footage exists, we will explain that and record your request. We will follow the Privacy Act process for handling access requests.
Q: What if I have a privacy concern or complaint?
A: Contact us and we will respond promptly. If you remain concerned after we respond, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
